Before the Music Dies (B4MD) is a critique of the American music industry and the commercialization of music. The film explores the homogenization of popular music, the challenges smaller genres face, and the decline of the music business. It features interviews and performances from many notable musicians, including:
Erykah Badu
Eric Clapton
Dave Matthews
Branford Marsalis
Elvis Costello
Bonnie Raitt
My Morning Jacket
Doyle Bramhall II
Forest Whitaker, the film's narrator

The film also uses historical footage to examine the evolution of American music. It was directed by Andrew Shapter and produced by Joel Rasmussen, who also co-wrote the film.
